Chemical treatment for degradation of pesticide residues: A review
Keywords:

Pesticides are extensively used to control pests, pathogens, weeds, and microbes that may adversely cause the loss of crops production, retardation of plant growth, health hazards to humans and livestock, and loss of property. A huge amount of pesticides are produced worldwide and are applied to several fields to control pests. Residual pesticides are found in agricultural runoff, soil, fruits, vegetables, and crops. These pesticide residues are responsible for serious environmental pollution. Decontamination or reduction of the pesticide concentration to the permissible limit in fruits, vegetables, crops, soil, and water bodies is a great challenge to the researchers. They developed several techniques of which chemical treatment is one of the important methods. Advanced oxidation of pesticides by Fenton reagent, ozonation, and free radicals are described in this review paper. The degradation of pesticides by the photochemical method is also elucidated.
