Adsorbent Characteristics of Malachite Green—A Short Review
Keywords:
Malachite green, Synthetic dye, Adsorption, thermodynamics, Environmental pollution, Textile industryAbstract
Dyes are widely used in textiles, paper and pulp, leather, cosmetics and food processing industries. Due to rapid development of modern textile industry a large amount of industrial effluent containing dyes have been discharged into the aquatic environment. Environmental pollution due to dye containing effluents has intensified over the years. Most of the synthetic dyes are toxic in nature, non bio-degradable and stable to light and hence cause severe physiological effect to living organism. Malachite green is a synthetic dye which is widely used in textile industry. There is different techniques viz. coagulation – flocculation, membrane filtration, oxidative method, bioaccumulation, biosorption etc. for removal of dyes from wastewater. Among the all techniques, adsorption is preferred due to its simplicity, availability of various types of adsorbents, reusability and also the cost effectiveness. This short review article mainly highlights on the recent progress of adsorption technique for removal of malachite green summarizing adsorbents characterization, as well as the isotherm, thermodynamics and kinetics of adsorptive removal
of malachite green.
