Abstract

The essay, Ancient Indian Administrative System: In The Light of Copper Plate Inscriptions aims at tracing out how the Ancient bureaucratic system originated from the system introduced by the Mauryan emperor Aśoka and the subsequent development of the integrated structure of the local autonomy flourished from the Royal Deeds of Kumāragupta’s Damodarpur Copper Plate Inscription, Mahārājādhirāja Gopacandra’s Mallasarul Copper Plate Inscription, Dharmapāla’s Khālimpur Copper Plate Inscription and so on. From these inscriptions are evident three types of Royal Deeds, employment of royal officials for smooth running of the local administration etc. The essay is concluded projecting the basics of modern Indian Administrative system which remains, more or less, same from its inception.
